20150118 06120900 1.0 TRUE The United Nations Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (Liberia) Geo-Information Management Services (UNMEER GIMS) is a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Web mapping application that provides easy and convenient ways to collect, search, query, discover, use, make and share freely available geospatial data and information resources from any device, anywhere, at any time. A primary goal of the UNMEER GIMS is to allow people who are not geo-information management or GIS professionals to do self-service mapping on any device (i.e., desktop, tablets and smartphones using Internet browsers) and expand the creative use and sharing of geospatial data and information resources to support UNMEER and the humanitarian relief efforts to the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in West Africa, especially in Liberia.It is hoped that by using the UNMEER GIMS from any device, anywhere and at any time will encourage collaboration and information sharing, and promote efficiency and effectiveness in providing individuals and organisations with timely and accurate geographic data and information for better and more informed decision making in responding to the EVD emergency.The UNMEER GIMS’ easy-to-use widgets and tools can be interactively used to easily accomplish various meaningful queries, spatial analysis and mapping tasks using relevant socio-demographic data (Liberia Census 2008) and the following geospatial data layers for Liberia:<ol><li>Healt Facilities - clinics, hospitals and health centres </li><li>Community Care Centres – centres used for managing Ebola-related cases </li><li>Ebola Treatment Units - centres used for treating Ebola patients </li><li>Forward Logistic Bases - logistical bases used for responding to the Ebola crisis </li><li>Who, What and Where (3W) – which organisations are doing what in which counties with regards the Ebola response </li><li>Border Crossing Points – official and unofficial border crossing points between Liberia and Sierra Leone, Guinea and Cote d’Ivoire </li><li>Schools – primary and secondary institutions </li><li>Roads – primary and secondary roads in Liberia </li><li>Hydrology – rivers and streams in Liberia </li><li>Counties – Liberia first-tier administrative boundaries </li><li>Districts - Liberia second-tier administrative boundaries </li><li>Clans - Liberia third-tier administrative boundaries </li><li>Settlements – cities, towns and villages </li></ol>The UNMEER GIMS has been developed and is currently being maintained by the UNMEER (Liberia) Information Management (IM) Team in Monrovia using Environmental System Research Systems (ESRI) Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS.
