Description: This map service depicts the major lines of latitude and longitude of Earth.
Major latitudes, such as the Equator, Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn are known as Parallels because they never intersect and are always the same distance from each other.
Longitude lines measure 'great circle's' around the earth and as such converge on other longitude lines until they cross at the North and South Poles. The prominent lines of longitude include the Prime Meridian and the International Data Line.
