NJDOT started the process by performing a high-level review of the update dataset and ran queries to identify potential areas for review.  During this process, NJDOT requested local road AADT data to identify local functional classification routes which may support the local area by upgrading the functional classification.  An initial review of the local AADT data was performed to identify route sections that were appropriate for an in-depth.  Of the 105 sections for in-depth review, 26 sections were upgraded to a higher functional classification.  A single route was identified as being downgraded to local based on information found that it contained a dirt surface type for a large portion of the segment.  \u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style='font-size:12pt'\u003eAfter the functional class changes were implemented, NJDOT finalized the mileage reports for the entire state and by county.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style='font-size:12pt'\u003eThe revised functional classification underwent a thorough public review and comment period. Representatives from NJDOT and the 3 metropolitan planning organizations (NJTPA, SJTPO, and DVRPC) met during various phases of the project to review the updated functional classification to recommend routes for review. All comments were logged into a Functional Classification Comment Tracking Form, and an official NJDOT response was provided for each comment.
