Description:

Overview:

This is an analysis of Cal Fire's proposed Zone 0 regulations (presentation link is here) which calls for the significant removal vegetation within 5 feet of a structure (including the structure itself). Building footprints within any fire hazard severity zone were selected out and coded with community names from the Countywide Statistical Areas layer. A buffer of 5 feet (including the building footprint) was run for unincorporated areas and intersected with a tree canopy. This intersection depicts the impact of vegetation removal resulting from the proposed Zone 0 regulations. A summary by community with an acreage breakdown was also generated.

Datasets used:

  • Building Outlines - 2023 LAR-IAC dataset

  • Fire Hazards - Combination of existing SRA fire hazards and proposed LRA fire hazards. Very High Fire Hazards queried out.

  • Tree Canopy - 2016 dataset from LAR-IAC 4
