<div>The Missouri River and its floodplain provide a multitude of aquatic and terrestrial habitat types that sustain rich assemblages of fish and wildlife species.</div>

<div>Aquatic habitat types generally include open water habitats of varying depths: the main channel, chutes, backwaters, floodplain lakes, and oxbows. Terrestrial habitat types include emergent wetlands, riparian woodland/forested wetlands, grasslands, and shrublands. </div>

<div>Fish and wildlife species found on the Missouri River include bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), migratory birds including the least tern (Sternula antillarum), and federally listed species including the federally endangered Northern long-eared bat (Myotis septentrionalis) and pallid sturgeon (Scaphirhynchus albus), and threatened piping plover (Charadrius melodus).</div>
