EPA Office of Air and Radiation. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style='font-family:&amp;quot;Aptos Display&amp;quot;,sans-serif;'&gt;The tool
allows users to explore and visualize the relationship between power plant
locations, their emissions, and the socioeconomics of surrounding communities
across the United States.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style='font-family:&amp;quot;Aptos Display&amp;quot;,sans-serif;'&gt;&lt;font color='#000000' size='4'&gt;The PPNC Long-Range
Downwind Areas feature layer includes the points (Hysplit_Points) and
footprints of Long-Range Downwind Areas (Hysplit_Footprints) for PPNC 2022
eGRID power plants for the Power Plants and Neighboring Communities application.
The methodology for Long-Range Downwind Areas is produced using EPA’s &lt;a href='https://www.epa.gov/power-sector/power-plant-environmental-justice-screening-methodology' rel='nofollow ugc'&gt;Power
Plant Screening Methodology&lt;/a&gt; (PPSM), specifically
HYSPLIT emission model outputs from 2021. PPSM uses air quality modeling
combined with GIS analysis to identify census block groups that are potentially
exposed to air pollution from each of the power plants.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;font color='#000000' size='4'&gt;&lt;span style='font-family:&amp;quot;Aptos Display&amp;quot;,sans-serif;'&gt;This feature
layer is generated by joining fossil fuel-fired power plant characteristics and
emissions data with socioeconomic characteristic data.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style='font-family:&amp;quot;Aptos Display&amp;quot;,sans-serif;'&gt; Power
plant data is sourced from the &lt;a href='https://www.epa.gov/power-sector' target='_blank' rel='nofollow ugc noopener noreferrer'&gt;Clean Air Power Sector Programs (CAPD)&lt;/a&gt; of
EPA including &lt;a href='https://wcms.epa.gov/egrid' rel='nofollow ugc'&gt;Emissions
&amp;amp; Generation Resource Integrated Database (eGRID)&lt;/a&gt; and &lt;a href='https://www.epa.gov/power-sector/power-sector-data' rel='nofollow ugc'&gt;Power Sector
Emissions Data&lt;/a&gt; for 2022.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style='font-family:&amp;quot;Aptos Display&amp;quot;,sans-serif;'&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style='font-family:&amp;quot;Aptos Display&amp;quot;,sans-serif;'&gt;For all
grid-connected power plants located in facilities with a nameplate capacity of
at least 1 Megawatt (MW), the following data is available: plant attributes,
operating data, emissions, heat input, generation, emission rates, and resource
mix. Socioeconomic characteristics of surrounding communities include people of
color, low income, unemployment rate, limited English speaking, less than high
school education, under the age of 5, and over the age of 64&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style='font-family:&amp;quot;Aptos Display&amp;quot;,sans-serif;'&gt;. Additional
total population data and socioeconomic information including age distributions,
income, educational level, race, household language, and employment status are
calculated for the &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style='font-family:&amp;quot;Aptos Display&amp;quot;,sans-serif;'&gt;Long-Range
Downwind Areas&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style='font-family:&amp;quot;Aptos Display&amp;quot;,sans-serif;'&gt; using the &lt;a href='https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/technical-documentation/table-and-geography-changes/2022/5-year.html' target='_blank' rel='nofollow ugc noopener noreferrer'&gt;US Census Bureau ACS 2022 5-Year
