<idAbs>
In 2018 an aquatic habitat survey assessment was performed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency Region 3 (Mid-Atlantic). This survey utilized a single beam echo sounder (Bio Sonics MX Habitat Echo sounder), along with the accompanying post-processing software (Visual Habitat), to assess submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) distribution and extent along the tidal Delaware River. This was the only survey that checked for presence/absence of vegetation as far south as the Delaware Bay. Sampling in this portion of the Delaware River occurred in July, August, and September.

The distributions for SAV heights at different depths suggests that the portion of the water column between 1 and 4 meters in depth appears to be the optimal growth area for SAV in tidal Delaware River, with the most plant growth between 2 – 3 meters in depth (elevation). Due to the limited area of SAV growth surveys took place in the 2-3 hours before and after high tide in order to operate the research vessel safely close to the shore. This was the only attempted to collect data as far south in the system as the Delaware Bay. The focus was to gather base information on areas where SAV was present in the system. Little to no SAV was found in the bay, and therefore was not revisited in future surveys.

This layer represents each "ping" or point recorded by the echo sounder, which shows the lines of navigation the research vessel took during the survey. These pings are also colored based on the percent coverage of SAV in that location ranging between 0 - 100%. During this survey the vessel was operated primarily parallel to the shoreline, rather then the figure eight pattern used in future surveys.

Download Points (CSV)
