<idAbs>This project began by visually analyzing Mountain Top Removal data provided by Skyruth from 2005 landsat images of West Virginia. Using landsat data of the same region from 2010 our group was tasked with performing a new analysis and finding out how much the MTR had expanded between 2005 and 2010. Using spectral data of the area from the 2010 landsats it was reclassified in ERDAS Imagine based on what we believed were spectral bands that fell within areas that had signs of MTR. Then we used area data of streams and rivers to remove parts of the reclassified polygon layer that were false positives from stream beds. Finally, the polygon layer of possible MTR sites was layered with the landsat imagery once more and random sample points were generated to check the accuracy of the MTR polygon.

Overall the group accuracy for random sampling was 98.33%, each of our group members analyzed one quarter of the survey area and the individual layers were merged together for the final product. My area was the northeastern quarter of the analysis layer and while I was pleased with the result I am also a little concerned that there are some false positives due to heavy cloud cover on from the landsat images used for the analysis.
</idAbs>
