<div>Vernal pools are seasonal depressional wetlands that are covered by shallow water for variable periods from winter to spring, but may be completely dry for most of the summer and fall. These wetlands range in size from small puddles to shallow lakes and are usually found in a gently sloping plain of grassland. The inventory in the Greenprint comes from comprehensive mapping of vernal pool habitats in Monterey, Santa Barbara, San Benito, San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties. Understanding the extent of these unique ecosystems is vital for the monitoring of and recovery planning for listed and sensitive species that are uniquely adapted to live in this environment. <br /></div><div><br /></div>Presents findings from comprehensive mapping of vernal pool habitats in the five county region.<div><br /></div><div><b>Preprocessing methods: </b>Dissolved all vernal pools into one feature. </div><div><br /></div><div><b>Fishnet & Report Processing Methods: </b>The fishnet summarizes acres of vernal pools within each grid cell. To calculate the report measure, total acres of vernal pools were summed for an area of interest.</div>
