ZCTAs are not to be confused with official U.S. postal mail zip codes, ZCTAs are instead used by the U.S. Census to present statistical data from censuses and serveys. The Census Bureau defines ZCTAs by allocating each block that contains addresses to a single ZCTA, usually to the ZCTA that reflects the most frequently occurring ZIP Code for the addresses within that tabulation block. Additionally the ZCTA shapefile was clipped with a California State boundry shapefile provided by ArcGIS Online to eliminate water areas. </idAbs>
