CTPS TAZs were redrawn in 2011-2012 based on changes in Census geography from 2000; new residential and commercial developments; updated street centerline, rail and hydrography featureclasses; and a new CTPS town boundary featureclass based on the MassGIS town boundaries from survey points with coastal waters. The MassGIS town boundaries were extended out into coastal waters using the old TOWNS_PB boundaries as a template. Coastal water polygons were assigned a COAST attribute of 'Y.' Inland polygons received a COAST attribute of 'N.' The coastline of the town boundaries from survey points featureclass extends too far inland for practical use. For the new town boundary featureclass, the inland reach of the coastline was limited to approximately that of older versions of town boundaries. This featureclass was created by selecting only the non-coastal-water polygons.
This featureclass contains multi-part polygons: one feature per town / taz.
A small part of Wellesley adjacent to Needham along the Charles River that is isolated from the rest of Wellesley has been assigned to Needham zone 1495.
