        <idPurp>The Rivers_Streams feature class is a geospatial representation of linear bodies of water (e.g. rivers, streams, artificial paths for tidal waters, shorelines, etc) within Maryland's borders. It is based on the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD, 1:24</idPurp>
        <idAbs>The Rivers_Streams dataset provides a geospatial representation of the use classes assigned to each linear body of water (streams and rivers) in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 26.08.02.08.  Note: This feature class was updated in July 2014 to reflect use class changes made during the 2013/2014 Triennial Review Process.  At that time approximately 41 water segments changed from one use class to use class III or III-P.

Within this dataset the extent of each use class is depicted as accurately as possible, corresponding with the coordinate and narrative geographic descriptions in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 26.08.02.08.   Even though this data set is the best visual representation of the use classes described in COMAR, when any discrepencies occur between this dataset and COMAR, always default to COMAR.  In some cases, the exact break point between one use class and another may not be located precisely as it is described in COMAR 26.08.02.08. In general, use classes were ended at the nearest downstream node (connection point between two COMID stream segments). For this reason it is best to use this layer in tandem with the regulation with the description and coordinates provided in the regulation serving as the official geographic locator.
