NYS Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), to create a statewide GIS street centerline file for use as the GIS streets database in DMV’s modernized Accident Location Information System (ALIS). The statewide GIS street centerline file was built from the best available local and state sources and was supplemented with contractor sources. The data was subsequently maintained through contracts with Tele Atlas® (now TomTom) until March 2008 and then with NAVTEQ® (now HERE North America LLC) from January 2009 through December 2013. During this maintenance time, the GPO, DOT, and several counties provided updates through the use of an online change notification system. In 2014, the GPO took over all maintenance of the data. Counties and the DOT continually provide updates through the GPO’s online data editing application or directly to the GPO through other communication methods. The GPO continually evaluates edits made to the NYS Address Points data and applies relevant changes to the NYS Streets data to keep the two GIS files in sync.
