Description: This dataset contains points representing public facilities such as fire stations and court houses. It was originally developed as part of the SD DOT statewide data collection project begun in the 1990s. Points for Pennington County were collected using GPS equipment in 1998. Since then, the scope of public facilities has been expanded to include other buildings such as schools (both public and private) and not-for-profit hospitals. The expansion was driven by the need to include these facilities on the Rapid City area map, which is a large printed map maintained for staff and public use.
