This dataset represents all of the active railroad routes within Minnesota (meaning not abandoned or tracks removed). These routes have been split into representative segments based on rail crossing locations and attributes are loaded into this dataset monthly. The symbology of this feature includes unique value color coding of the primary operating railroad where the "subsidiary railroads" have been grouped together with their "parent railroad" (i.e. Soo Line Railroad = Canadian Pacific Railroad). The routes are also symbolized using line width as a function of total trains per day (as reported by the primary operating railroad). This is a planning level dataset and the coordinate system used is NAD83 UTM Zone 15N.
