Description: A Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility (CVEF) commonly called a Weigh Station (WS) is a checkpoint typically located directly off the State highways where the California Highway Patrol (CHP) inspects the weight of trucks and commercial vehicles. the presence of CVEFs is to ensure that the roads are not compromised by potentially overweight vehicles, thus prolonging the useful life of the highway and improving the safety of the traveling public. CVEFs are equipped with truck static scales and/or Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) scales to weigh trucks and commercial vehicles. Description: Caltrans provides Safety Roadside Rest Areas as a part of the State Highway System pursuant to Streets and Highways Code, Sections 218-226.5. Safety Roadside Rest Areas provide opportunities for travelers to safely stop, stretch, take a nap, use the restroom, get water, check maps, place telephone calls, switch drivers, check vehicles and loads, and exercise pets. Rest areas reduce drowsy and distracted driving and provide a safe and convenient alternative to unsafe parking along the roadside. This dataset provides the detail rest area information collected from Right of Way and the Statewide Rest Areas List from Division of Maintenance. The data was last updated on 08-15-2023, Verification Source: CT Public Facilities Inventory List.In some cases, rest areas are closed temporarily for maintenance, the facility web links will help to check the current status of the rest areas.

Further details about the full process and update notes can be found in the GDB container metadata.This specific dataset represents the basic (ie simplified) county dataset without the extra coding that can be found in the "full" dataset. In this dataset, all bays (plus bay islands and constructed features) are merged into the mainland, and coastal features (such as islands and constructed features) are not included, with the exception of the Channel Islands which ARE included. This dataset is the same as the cnty_basic, except for the addition of the Channel Islands.
