Description:

The “Neighborhood Reporting Areas” map was initially created in 2007. The primary purpose is using them to collect and report information (data) in Austin using logical boundaries. It is comprised of Neighborhood Planning Areas (in the central core) which are approved and can only be changed by City Council. Areas outside of neighborhood planning areas were drawn using logical boundaries such as roadways, and covering larger areas encompassing several neighborhoods. As is the case with most neighborhood planning areas, reporting areas are not meant to reflect neighborhood association boundaries or names. Any adherence or lack thereof to neighborhood association boundaries or names is unintended. As is the case with other reporting mechanisms, such as Census boundaries, neighborhood reporting areas are drawn purely for the sake of gathering and reporting data. Names of the new reporting areas were based on known entities within each polygon, simply to make it easy to identify the general location of the polygon within the city. This does not preclude or exclude the use of boundaries and names from future planning efforts, with or without Council direction.
