Service Description: In April 2025, NV5 was contracted by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) to create a comprehensive tree inventory over public and private lands within the City of Detroit, Michigan. Tree segments, tree points, and land cover data were created to develop a citywide tree census that captures key attributes about the trees, their health status, and opportunities for new plantings. The source data used in the land cover and tree segmentation products includes a colorized and classified lidar point cloud acquired in 2021 and digital four band aerial imagery (red, green, blue, near infrared) acquired in 2025. Mobile lidar was provided for Belle Isle by the City of Detroit’s Detroit Street View (DSV) program. Field work was also conducted to support modeling of tree species and health metrics.

The minimum mapping unit used to identify planting spaces is 25 square feet. They are attributed with land cover, land use, presence of overhead wires, and size information.
