Description: Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) are part of the Natura 2000 network of European sites, designated in accordance with the EU Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC), to protect selected habitats and species.
SACs boundaries are mapped using Irish Transverse Mercator (epsg 2157) or Irish Grid (epsg. 29903). Off-shore marine SACs are in WGS84 (epsg 4326) and have their areas calculated in ETRS89 LAEA (epsg 3035). Details of the co-ordinate system for each SAC site can be found in the attribute table of the shapefile.
