Description: In 2022, the Elizabeth River Trail Foundation's Master Planning Committee conducted a study to explore options for extending the trail eastward to the city boundary with Virginia Beach. The committee identified a primary route that most closely aligns with the trail vision and values. A secondary route was identified that may be more financially feasible than the primary option of crossing over the mouth of Broad Creek. The Coastal Storm Risk Management project that the City is implementing in partnership with the US Army Corps of Engineers may integrate a trail, and this is included as an alternate alignment across the mouth of Broad Creek.
