Service Description: Segments developed as part of the debris flow emergency assessment for State-BAER in 2026. The USGS models post-fire debris flow hazards using soil burn severity and terrain data (King and others, 2025). The results are available on a USGS dashboard and used in our assessments. The model outputs debris flow probability, volume, and combined relative hazard for each hydrologic basin. Our assessment focuses on basins and stream segments with moderate to high combined relative hazard. The USGS model is based on a design storm event with a 15-minute peak rainfall intensity of 24 mm/hr. The model does not consider the effect of rain-on-snow or rapid snowmelt, which can also produce debris flows and flash floods. If you need assistance accessing or analyzing the USGS debris flow hazard assessment, please contact Nancy Calhoun (Nancy.Calhoun@dnr.wa.gov) and we can provide support.
