Service Description: Polygons representing classes of different soil erosion risk index values calculated as part of the analyses conducted under State-BAER in 2026.
Estimates for erosion potential provides a quantitative indicator to identify fire-related threats to soil productivity and hydrologic function. When combined with sediment potential, these post-fire hydrologic components are used to quantify erosion and sediment delivery across the burned area and sub-watersheds, informing potential effects to soil productivity and hydrologic function, as well as other Critical Values.
The greatest potential for erosion is found on steeper slopes in areas with higher soil burn severities. To create a quantitative matrix of SBS and slope, numeric values were assigned to SBS and slope. Each SBS rating is multiplied by a slope rating to develop an erosion hazard rating.
