Layer depicts faults in Paleozoic bedrock units, largely inferred from drill hole data, and only very rarely exposed in outcrop. Most faults are vertical and represent dip-slip offset of generally less than 100 feet.

Geologic polygon file depicting sedimentary rocks of the Keweenawan Supergroup—specifically formations equivalent to the Hinckley, Fond du Lac, and Solar Church Formations—inferred from geophysical data beneath Lake Superior. Geophysical data sources include aeromagnetic, gravity, and seismic profile data.

Map depicts the extension of igneous bedrock units from the shoreline of Lake Superior to the Minnesota border in the lake. This coverage also shows geology beneath a variably thick veneer of sedimentary rocks (Layer “Keweenawan sediment cover”). With the exception of a very few islands, the geologic depiction is based solely on extrapolation from exposures on the mainland via geophysical imagery.
