Objectives:
The Buck Ridge winter recreation access is a well used yet under mapped area. Backcountry travel, especially in the winter, is demanding on many levels and proper navigation is an important one. This map will be publicly assessable and can serve as a reference for recreation as well as search and rescue. The intended data will have areas of interest, accuracy points, trails, and sled zones. Accuracy points are post processed from MTSU base station to deliver overall accuracy of the data collected.
Equipment: Features
Data recorded with an Emlid Reach RS2
Antenna height 1.5m from ground
Mapping Techniques:
For the trail data a snowmobile was used to travel the different trails.
Steamed interval over a distance 5.048m
Base Stations:
Accuracy points were corrected by MTSU base station around 65km away from the study site.
Editing:
Features had to be directly downloaded from the tablet due to sync errors that were unresolvable. Symbolizing by attributes were used in most feature classes.
Estimated Accuracy:
The map in full has a 75% of its positions measured within 2 meters to 30-50cm for all data, over a 25 km range. Estimated accuracy of 68% confidence. Many inconsistencies might have occurred due to fast travel of snowmobiles. But really below 5 meters of accuracy in this setting is sufficient.
Spatial reference Information:
This dataset's coordinate system is UTM Zone 12N, with a
projection of Transverse Mercator. The datum is NAD 1983.
