Thanks - 5/3/2019The nine pedestrian planning areas were developed by Christina Blackston, the first project manager for the Pedestrian Plan Update adopted in 2017. The areas were established to match concurrent work by Jason Patton on eight zones for bicycle planning. The nine areas and the eight zones follow census tract boundaries, reflect geographic edges (hills, freeways, distinct neighborhoods), and are reasonably balanced with respect to land area and population. (Oakland’s wide range of population densities makes it impossible to have zones of equal area and of equal population.) The boundaries of the nine areas and eight zones are identical, except for the following.
