Layers:

Description: This map layer contains geologic unit boundaries for the area depicted in the Geologic Map of North America, published by the Geological Society of America in 2004 (Reed et. al, 2004). Digital data were compiled from source data at a scale of 1:5,000,000 and are not intended to be used at a larger (greater detail) scale. This layer has been simplified first by smoothing bends then removing extra vertices. The resulting layer was stripped of all but the predominant surface rock layers and dissolved to make the most responsive layer for the TESS lesson series for elementary through secondary students
