Description: Volcano data was extracted and simplified in terms of the types of volcanoes to the 5 types common to middle school textbooks. While the original list can be located at the Smithsonian site http://www.volcano.si.edu/tdpmap/downloads/volcanoes.txt , a copy of this data with a complex set of types assigned from the TERC Earth Exploration Tool book was used for the simplification process. A similar table can be found at 'Volcano World' at the Oregon State University.
http://volcano.oregonstate.edu/volcano_table which has 434 volcanoes but was not the table consulted for our list. It appears like a derived list (active sites) from the same original source.
