Service Description: Current national rail network classification based on priorities as mentioned in the Rail Network Investment Programme (RNIP) for 2021-2024. Classification classes consist of Priority, secondary, Tertiary and Mothballed lines.
When a line is mothballed, assets are left in place to preserve the option value of the line. Most assets will be reused if the line is reopened, although depending on condition, some assets may need to be renewed or upgraded.
