About Road User Charges
Anyone using New Zealand’s roads contributes towards their upkeep. Most road users pay levies in the price of their fuel. Others pay through Road User Charges (RUC).
Road users must buy RUC licence to comply with NZ regulation if their vehicle:
The revenue collected from road user charges is dedicated to the National Land Transport Fund (NLTF). The NLTF funds new roads, improvements and maintenance, public transport, road safety, and walking and cycling.

This table is built monthly from data in our Motor Vehicle Register, systems and services division, and is a licenced publication by New Zealand Transport Agency Open Data.

| Region | The region of the vehicles registered owner |
| Territorial Authority | The territorial authority of the vehicles registered owner |
| CC Grouping Vehicle | Group of CC_Rating of vehicle |
| Vehicle Class | Vehicle equipment standard classification combined with classification explanation |
| Motive Power | Identifies the primary fuel source that powers the vehicle |
| Vehicle Type | The type of vehicle e.g. motorcycle, passenger car/van, bus etc. Some special purpose and agricultural vehicles have been combined. |
| Vehicle Usage | Classification of how a vehicle is used. This field groups several more detailed usage types. |
| RUC Weight Type | Group of RUC weight into 3 divisions - "0 - 2500", "2501-6000", "above 6000" |
| Licence Type | Type of RUC licence purchased (Distance, High productivity, Additional, B-Train, Gap) |

Dataset Caveats:
This data, including historical values, will change over time as some RUC purchases may be reversed, or refunded in part or in full, at any time after the original transaction.
TOTAL_KM_Purchased is calculated as distance purchased for a given licence purchase less any overlapping distance.
The dataset is tabulated from 1 January onwards for a period of up to 5 years and is presented in summary form without identification of individual vehicles.

This data is accurate for current RUC purchases as at the date of the data set creation.
