Service Description: Data were originally developed to allow web access to engineering soil map and report information, as part of the Geotechnical Data Management System application sponsored by the NJ Department of Transportation (NJDOT.) The source maps and booklets were published in the 1950's as the Engineering Soil Survey of New Jersey. The data as currently formatted are designed to be used in the GDMS redeveloped system, hosted by the NJ Office of Information Technology (NJOIT), Office of Geographic Information Systems (OGIS), for NJDOT.

Original publications and data were generated by the Engineering Soil Survey of New Jersey, a Joint Project of The Bureau of Engineering Research, Rutgers University; NJ State Highway Department; in cooperation with the Department of Commerce, US Bureau of Public Roads.
