Description: Data was extracted in August 2013 from the Live Fish Movements Database (LFMD), an SQL database used to programme and monitor animal health surveillance at Aquaculture Production Businesses (ABP). The data contains OS grid references which have been used to create an ESRI point shapefile. It consists of point locations approximating the centre of the production area of each APB. Currently the exact location or extent of each species held within each farm is not recorded, since in marine shellfish sites CEFAS tend to look at wider epidemiological areas when there is a need to consider applying disease controls. Attribute fields: NEW CODE: Authorisation Number CODE: Old registration number DISEASE_CAT: Disease Category under 2006/88 EC [I = Disease free, II = Subject to a surveillance programme, III = Undetermined, IV = Subject to an eradication programme, V = Known to be infected] ZONE: Local identifier YEAR: Year data collected SPECIES TYPE: OIE species code WATER CATCHMENT: EA water catchment (not relevant to shellfish farms, but one of our database fields). These fields are used for planning visits and epidemiological work for freshwater farms, not used for shellfish farms. DISCHARGES: EA water catchment the farm discharges into (not relevant for shellfish farms but one of our database fields). I have combined the datasets into one and displayed from the orginal coordinates within the attribute table. I have then re-projected the dataset from British National Grid to ETRS89. Caveats: � The data is not suitable for use in estimating population size, business activity, extent of shellfish population, age of shellfish population, or the exact location of individual shellfish species within the farmed area cultivated by each APB � Information is collected and recorded by location for the specific requirements of national and European legislation on aquatic animal health; it may not be suitable for other purposes � The data does not reflect the size or extent of each APB, merely a single location point positioned in the approximate centre of each APB production area � The data is not a reflection of the suitability of marine sites for future development of shellfish aquaculture.
