This coverage depicts Broward County regulatory Wellfield Protection Zones. The Wellfield Protection Zone layer was originally created in the 1997 using a hydraulic model to create Zones 1, 2 and 3 for supply wells installed to that point. The wellfield map was approved on February 16, 2001. Subsequent supply wells installed after the model was first run did not have protection zones. In June 2013, the Broward County Commission approved a revision to the wellfield protection ordinance that allows protection for those wells installed after the hydraulic model was run that did not have protection zones. Additionally, the ordinance revision allows the removal of protection zones forabandoned supply wells. The ordinance revision defines the new wellfield zones of influence as follows:
1. Zone 1 means the wellfield protection area shown on the zones of influence map approved on February 16, 2001 for water wells included on that map, and within 250 feet from an existing water well for wells not included on that map.
2. Zone 2 means the wellfield protection area shown on the zones of influence map approved on February 16, 2001 for water wells included on that map, and situated between the outer boundary of Zone 1 and 500 feet from an existing water well for wells not included on that map.
3. Zone 3 means the wellfield protection area shown on the zones of influence map approved on February 16, 2001 for water wells included on that map, and situated between the outer boundary of Zone 2 and 1320 feet from an existing water well for wells not included on that map.
