Public Input is a civic engagement and public participation platform used by governments, agencies, and community organizations to collect feedback, share information, and engage residents in decision-making processes. It helps agencies run surveys, host virtual or in-person meetings, manage mailing lists, and compile public comments into structured datasets for reporting and analysis. A Community-Based Organization (CBO) is typically a non-profit entity that operates within a specific community or geographical area, aiming to address local needs and improve the well-being of its residents. CBOs typically focus on issues impacting the community such as healthcare, education, social services, housing, and community development.  Examples of these community organizations include local food banks, youth mentoring programs, neighborhood associations, churches and immigrant support centers. CBOs play a crucial role in complementing government efforts by providing tailored services and programs that cater to the unique needs of local communities. They act as a bridge between governments and residents, offering grassroots insights and implementing initiatives that may be more responsive and effective than centralized government programs alone. Engaging citizens requires a customized approach based on the needs and dynamics of a given community or project area.  PublicInput’s CBO Network and CBO Module helps state and local governments identify and manage their relationships with local organizations.

Data was compiled by Public Input through outreach and participant engagement into a database of CBOs. This data was exported from Public Input (see Data Source section) with Latitude and Longitude fields, as well as other CBO data, as a CSV file. The Latitude and Longitude fields were converted from text to numeric fields and stored with 14 decimal places. The table was brought into ArcGIS Pro and converted to a GIS layer using the ‘XY Table to Point’ tool.

 

This data is intended for use in the ATLAS (Advancing Transportation through Linkages, Automation, and Screening) Tool.
