Description: Properties in the state of North Carolina on which transportation entities are located. This includes: Airports, Seaports, Freight Intermodal Terminals, Military Base, Rail Depot, Major Transit Terminals, and Ferry Terminals. This layer was derived from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), National Highway System (NHS) Intermodal Connectors. Intermodal Connectors are defined by the FHWA NHS as highways that "provide access between major intermodal facilities and the other four subsystems making up the National Highway System." The locations of the intermodal connectors was overlayed with the parcel layer of the county in which it is located and the parcels selected to be merged into a new polygon layer. Additionally, some local terminals/public transportation hubs in urban areas were included as well. This is a dataset of the freight terminals used for the Freight [+ Military] Highway criteria for the NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Prioritization 5.0 (P5.0) process. List of terminals is comprised of the following: public freight intermodal terminals as defined by NHS (truck/rail/pipeline), seaports, inland ports, Statewide Mobility airports with large movement of freight, major military bases, major ferry terminals (annual truck traffic greater than 10,000), and large private freight intermodal terminals (truck/rail). Dataset includes all terminals within North Carolina and within 20 miles outside the state border. Point locations depict entrance(s) to each terminal. For the purposes of the Strategic Planning Office of Transportation Prioritization 5.0 project, data is not updated after July 2017.
