The NC State County Boundary GIS data set is used to provide geospatial information for all North Carolina State and County Boundary lines and the best available geospatial data to facilitate planning, siting, and impact analysis in all 100 counties of NC. This information is sourced via the NC Division of Transportation, the United States Geological Survey and actual field surveys conducted by both North Carolina and South Carolina Licensed Surveyors who have been approved and recorded in their respective counties. This file contains some of the boundaries of counties which have a completed boundary survey, however the majority of the boundary lines have not been surveyed. In addition, some boundaries are unable to be surveyed due to situations where boundaries are coincident with river centers. Currently, the majority of the boundary lines are sourced from DOT county maps originally obtained from the United States Geological Survey; some of these boundary lines may have been updated by county parcel maps.
