In 2005, there were 23 typhoons that made their way through the western Pacific. This global-scale scene describes their path, their changing wind speed and barometric pressure, and the series of satellite photographs showing what they looked like from space.
The typhoons have been categorized into a series of groups indicating when they first developed. The groups are the first, second and fourth quarters of the year, with the third (busiest) quarter broken down further, into individual months.
Scene contents:
- Paths are shown as blue lines, draped over the planet
- Typhoon names are displayed at the start of each path
- Wind speed is shown as relatively-scaled cylinders
- Barometric pressure is embedded (high to low) as a yellow-to-red color scheme on the cylinders
- Popups provide precise values for dates, wind speed and pressure
The scene helps highlight which periods had more storms, which storms were were powerful (in regards to wind speed), as well as highlighting the tight relationship between high wind speed and low barometric pressure.
