Description: The African Bean Environments (AFBE) were defined by elevation, annual rainfall, soil pH and solar radiation/day length. The elevation data was the 90 m resolution Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM) (Reuter et al., 2007). The climatic data was the Global Aridity Index (Zomer et al., 2008) based on the WorldClim data (Hijmans et al., 2005). Elevation was classed as highland above 1500 m.a.s.l, mid-elevation between 1000 and 1500 m.a.s.l, and lowland below 1000 m.a.s.l (Figure 70).
