Description:
Symbology is based on REMOVE_FLAG field

0 = Site does not meet any criteria for removal and is a potentially suitable Community Garden site for further review
1 = Site contains one or more of the criteria in the table below and is not determined to be a suitable site

Criteria used for site removal is noted in the REMOVE_REASON field

Site Suitability Pre-requisite Criteria

Parcel Status Publicly owned vacant (Government & Recreational)
Size of Parcels Area > 4000 sq ft for public lands
Buildings/paved area Less than 25%
Avoided locations Ecological areas, parks, beaches
Slope Slope < 15 degrees (based on pixel majority)
Street Access The parcel is adjacent to a street on at least one side.

Preferred Criteria are included as additional fields that can be used for filtering of the potential suitable sites.

Proximity to grocery stores Nearest grocery store to each parcel (1/2 mile)
Proximity to community services Distance to community services layer for each parcel *(Merged churches with senior community center, high schools)
Low-income community Population under 20% Federal Poverty Line; area proportional disaggregation
Environmental Burden Heavy environmental burden (over theĀ  >60th percentile of overall burden). Averaged environmental burden for the polygons intersecting vacant parcels
Parcel not feasible to housing Proximity to the freeway (within 500 feet) / The portion of the parcel is under electrical lines (0,1, 2 for road lines and powerlines)
Remoteness to existing gardens/ parks The nearest local parks/state parks to each parcel
