Description: Infant death is defined as death occurring within the first year of life. Single-year data are only available for Los Angeles County overall, Service Planning Areas, Supervisorial Districts, City of Los Angeles overall, and City of Los Angeles Council Districts. Data are not presented for geographies with number of infant deaths less than 11.Infant deaths are among the most tragic health events in a community, and sadly, they occur at a much greater frequency in some communities than in others. Chronic stress associated with both historical and ongoing racism are important contributing factors.
