Description: This feature class contains the polygons representing the source water assessment areas (i.e., source water protection areas) for all public water supplies in Arkanas. Coordinate system is NAD83 UTM Zone 15.Delineation MethodsRiver/Stream - Assessment Areas include all lands within 0.25 miles of either side of the centerline of the river / stream and of all its tributaries within a 3 day time of travel limited by a maximum distance upstream from the intake of 20 miles. Lakes/Reservoirs - Arbitrary Fixed Buffer- Assessment Areas include all lands within a 5-mile radius around the intake that are within 0.25 miles of the shoreline at the impoundment's high water level and within 0.25 miles of either side of the centerline of all tributaries. In addition, all lands within a 0.5-mile radius of the intake, regardless of watershed boundaries are included. Wells- Four methods are used. Arbitrary fixed radius whereby 0.25 mile buffer is created around wellhead. Volumetric method uses formula of the volume of a cylinder assuming a 5 year time of travel for contaminants. Mathematical flow equation method requires knowledge of aquifer hydraulic parameters including transmissivity and storativity. Hydrogeologic mapping combined hydrogeologic budget methodrequires defining the smallest drainage basin containing the well and determining the hydrologic budget for the basin. If the selected basin is a self-contained hydrologic unit, precipitation on the basin will equal or balance the sum of water losses, assuming no long-term change of storage. If these quantities do not balance, within a reasonable approximation, the basinal boundary is changed to incorporate a larger basin until a balance is achieved. Springs and GWUDI Wells - An assessment area was delineated around each spring enclosure or wellhead using the arbitrary fixed radius method of delineation to set the boundary at a radial distance of 0.5 mile around each intake. If a surface water body intersected the base 0.5-mile radius, conjunctive delineations were performed. In such cases the delineation and assessment area was increased to include all area within a radius of 3.0 miles.Attribute FieldsPWS_ID1 - (PWS ID) ADH ID number for public water system (PWS).SOURCE_ID- (Unique Source ID) Unique ID number for source.
