Description: This dataset consists of 12-digit hydrologic units identified by NRCS State Conservationists (STCs) and Directors of the Caribbean and Pacific Island Areas using the United States Geologic Survey (USGS) Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) downloaded from USGS as on 09/05/2023. Only the 12-digit hydrologic units identified for use as Source Water Protection Areas (SWPA) by the NRCS STCs and Directors for use in Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) are included in the dataset, and all remaining 12-digit HUCs were dropped from the dataset. STCs and Directors have worked with drinking water partners to identify areas for these high priority areas for source water protection and identified the associated potential threats (water quality or aquifer depletion).

Copyright Text: This dataset was created by USDA FPAC-BC GEO staff and NRCS staff collaborating to provide states and island areas with an interactive tool to identify 12-digit Hydrologic Units for inclusion, with post-processing data aggregation, clean-up, and finalization provided by USDA FPAC-BC GEO staff. This dataset is a subset of the boundaries provided in the USGS WBD, at the 12-digit level, with additional attributes created and populated by NRCS to meet NRCS program needs. Funding for the source Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) leveraged in this project was provided by the USDA-NRCS, USGS and EPA along with other federal, state and local agencies. Representatives from many agencies contributed a substantial amount of time and salary towards quality review and updating of the source WBD dataset in order to meet the WBD Standards.
