Description:

This dataset contains verified point locations of Municipal (MSWLF) and Non-Municipal Solid Waste Landfills (Non-MSWLFs) from ADEQ's Arizona Unified Repository for Informational Tracking of the Environment (AZURITE) and is owned by the Solid and Haz Waste Section. This layer is inteded for internal and external consumption via GIS applications and Records Center requests for public transparency. A MSWLF is any solid waste landfill that accepts household waste, household hazardous waste or conditionally exempt small quantity generator waste. MSWLFs are required to obtain Solid Waste Facility Plan (SWFP) approval. Non-MSWLFs include facilities commonly known as construction and demolition debris (C&D) landfills as well as private landfills. C&D landfills typically accept solid waste derived from constructing, repairing or remodeling of buildings or other structures or demolishing buildings or other structures. Private landfills accept only permitted wastes generated onsite. Non-MSWLFs include facilities commonly known as construction and demolition debris (C&D) landfills as well as private landfills.

Place types are selected to the best of the verifier's ability and may cause exclusion from datasets if a place has more than one appropriate place type. Locations are either self-reported by permittees or provided by ADEQ staff from applications, complaints, or internet references; verification is completed daily. Unverified locations are not included in this dataset, and may be added at any point in the future once the location is able to be verified.
