Description: This dataset represents all USTs from the AZURITE UST Tanks module. Owned by the UST - LUST section, this dataset is updated nightly and is for reference only. An underground storage tank system is a tank and any underground piping connected to the tank that has at least 10 percent of its combined volume underground. The federal UST regulations apply only to UST systems storing either petroleum or certain hazardous substances. Some larger tanks could be made up of multiple compartments, which are sections within a single tank that hold different substances. These are represented in the dataset as Compartment A, Compartment B, etc. UST Tanks are not verified by the Place Verification team, and locations may not be correct or accurate.

Description: This dataset represents all reported UST Releases from the AZURITE UST module, which include suspected and confirmed releases to the environment. Owned by the UST - LUST section, this dataset is updated nightly and is for reference only. A UST that has had potentially a release of a regulated substance (typically petroleum) into the environment is called a suspected release. An investigation into the suspected release will determine if there is a confirmed release into the environment or not. If the investigation determines no release to the environment has occurred, it is called a "false alarm".A UST that has had a confirmed release of a regulated substance (typically petroleum) into the environment is called a leaking UST. This designation does not mean that the UST system continues to leak; it means that a release to the environment has occurred. Leaking USTs may present safety and environmental risks. Millions of gallons of petroleum products and hazardous substances are stored in USTs in the United States, and leaking USTs have been identified as a major source of soil and groundwater contamination. Leaks from USTs may create a risk to soil, groundwater and surface water (drinking water resources) and air (through vapor intrusion).
