Description: Layer: Well Water Chemistry in Nova Scotia Source: Nova Scotia Department of Energy and Mines, Geoscience and Mines Branch Well Water Chemistry in Nova Scotia This layer contains data from the Nova Scotia Groundwater Chemistry Database which consists mostly of 'raw' non-domestic well-water sample results collected between 1954 and the present that are assumed to reflect ambient groundwater chemistry (i.e. treated well water samples and data from contaminated sites investigation are excluded). This database was compiled from various federal, provincial, and municipal groundwater chemistry data sources, including water-quality-monitoring data from government buildings with well water supplies and Nova Scotia Environment groundwater chemistry data from registered public drinking-water supplies, pumping tests, municipal groundwater systems, and provincial observation wells. With the exception of municipal, test hole and observation well data, water sample locations have been georeferenced to the nearest NS Atlas grid centroid for privacy considerations. The selected water chemistry parameters include Alkalinity, Bicarbonate, Carbonate, Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, Fluoride, Sulphate, Chloride, Hardness, Total Dissolved Solids, pH, Nitrate – Nitrite, Arsenic, Uranium, Iron, and Manganese. Non-detects were assigned a value equal to half of the detection limit. It is a point feature dataset consisting of 3754 records and is current to February 2018.
