Description: A simple hurricane risk index for coastal counties along the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean. The index approximates risk using the estimated Hurricane strikes from 1900 - 2000 to define the hazard and the CDC Social Vulnerability Index to define the vulnerability. The index is for planning purposes only and does not predict future hurricane strikes. Hazard data are historical and, hence, may not fully account for future conditions especially as climate changes and storminess increases.
