Description:

Each county has a home fire vulnerability score, which is calculated as a composite index combining the historic count of fatalities in a county with community vulnerability scores from FEMA National Risk Index. Fire fatality counts come from the U.S. Fire Administration's Home Fire Fatalities in the News data.

County home fire fatality vulnerability can be explored using the Home Fire Fatalities and Community Vulnerability Explorer to understand how fatalities relate to community vulnerability in individual counties.
