KEY MESSAGES:
Severe weather including tornadoes, thunderstorms, heavy rains, hail and damaging winds is expected across the region today. All those living in state and FEMA temporary housing units need to keep cell phones on and fully charged with the volume turned up and severe weather alerts enabled. Prepare an evacuation plan and follow all directions given by your local and state officials.
Stay in touch to notify FEMA of changes in mailing or email addresses or phone numbers, and to report insurance settlements or additional damage discovered since home inspections. Survivors can get help and ask questions by visiting disasterassistance.gov or by calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.
If you received a letter from FEMA saying that the information you provided is incomplete, or that you are ineligible for disaster assistance, you have the right to appeal the decision within 60 days of the date on the letter. An appeal must be filed in the form of a signed letter from the applicant.
