Description:

This file contains all the MEOWs AGL (Above Ground Level) generated by the National Hurricane Center for the New Orleans SLOSH (Sea, Lake, and Overland Surge from Hurricanes) basin. Ground level is defined to be the average grid cell height for land cells and 0 for water cells. The ground level value is defined in the topography field and is the value above the basin's datum. A MEOW depicts the "Maximum Envelope of Water" formed from a composite of many individual SLOSH model runs. It is the highest storm surge value at each grid location for a given storm category, forward speed, and direction of motion, regardless of which individual storm simulation produced the value. The NHC has generated one MEOW for each storm category, storm direction, forward speed, and tide level used in the simulation study. A basin is a collection of bathymetry and topography used by the SLOSH model to compute storm surge. SLOSH is a numerical model used by the NWS to compute storm surge, an abnormal change in the water level due to a storm's winds and pressure.
