Air Quality - Air Pollution Exposure Zone (2020) - DRAFT at 2/10/2020

San Francisco partnered with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) to inventory and assess air pollution and exposures from mobile, stationary, and area sources within San Francisco. The BAAQMD has conducted dispersion modeling using AERMOD to assess the emissions from the following primary sources: roadways, permitted stationary sources, port and maritime sources, Caltrain and the Transit Center/Transbay Terminal bus depot. Particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) and total organic gases (TOG) were modeled on a 20 meter by 20 meter receptor grid covering the entire City. A 20 meter buffer was added around each receptor point to capture all areas in between receptor points (buffered receptor point).
The layer identifies city lots where a buffered receptor point indicates modeled fine particulate matter (PM2.5) annual average concentrations of or greater than 10 micrograms per cubic meter, including ambient, and/or excess cancer risk of or greater than 100 per one million population (air pollution hot spots). This layer does not identify all city lots that overlap with these criteria because certain lots are substantially large (e.g., Golden Gate Park, Lake Merced, Presidio, Balboa Park, City College of San Francisco, Yerba Buena Island) and identifying the entire lot, although only one or a few buffered receptor points within the large parcel exceed the criteria, could be misleading. In these instances, only the buffered receptor point(s) is shown.
