Service Description: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) RE-Powering America’s Land Initiative encourages renewable energy development on current and formerly contaminated lands, landfills, and mine sites when such development is aligned with the community’s vision for the site. Using publicly available information, RE-Powering maintains a list of benefits for completed renewable energy installations on contaminated lands, landfills, and mine sites. To highlight successful renewable energy projects developed on contaminated lands, EPA is compiling information on completed and proposed renewable energy installations on contaminated lands from public announcements, press releases, newspaper articles, and, in some cases, conversations with the parties involved. This dataset reflects completed (currently operating) renewable energy installations on contaminated lands, landfills, and mine sites. See RE-Powering America's Land Benefits Matrix (https://www.epa.gov/re-powering/benefits-matrix) for more information.
